Dissident Mama, episode 36 – Electric Dinosaur

Ryan Randall, also known as Electric Dinosaur, is the writer and artist behind the Southern-without-apology comic book “Rebel Yell,” as well as “Gun on the Chickahominy,” a casual pixel-target game set during the War Between the States, which is due out May 21. This young and creative Southern son has already felt the burn of internet censorship, so let’s find out why some crowd-funding platforms and YouTube have their panties in such a progressive wad over his content and see what keeps Randall keepin’ on in these (sometimes) seemingly fruitless times with their never-ending woke battles. Let’s “exercise our imaginations,” shall we?!

Take Command and Scourge of War are two series of tactical games set during the war. I can only personally vouch for Take Command: 2nd Manassas, which was excellent. Ultimate General: Civil War is a great game, both strategic and tactical, made by a Ukrainian company which also made Ultimate General: Gettysburg, Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail, and is currently working on Ultimate General: American Revolution. They get some words wrong in the translation and some of their understanding of tech is incorrect (in-game the 1855 Harper’s Ferry rifle is better than the 1853 Enfield because newer is always better).

Ageod’s American Civil War was a great strategy game from 2007. Very in-depth. Have to buy a physical CD to play it. AACW 2 is available for sale on Steam, but I liked it less well than the original.

Great suggestions, Jake. Thanks for taking the time to add in your two cents, especially letting us know that these un-woke Rebels Vs. Yankees games were made in Ukraine. Go figure, right?! Only puritanical-progressive Murica would consider such history-based vids as too hot and hateful for the masses. Thank goodness creators like Electric Dinosaur and a few others are making products for us Southern-without-apology folks.

All those games are excellent and I would also highly recommend them.
      Especially Ageod.

Why do you think ACW 1 is better than ACW 2? I can see that the western expansion makes for a less tight gameplay experience, but they fixed so many supply issues.

      1. Jake Starbuck

Honestly, I think it’s a mixture of childhood nostalgia and personal preference concerning some of the mechanics. I also prefer the original art style. The supply issue fixes are a major upgrade. I haven’t played 2 anywhere near as much as I played 1.

I have to admit to childhood me going into the AACW scenario files and creating a fictitious brigade led by my time-travelling self.

Forwarded to me by a friend:

“This game is called ‘War of Rights.’ You can play either side. Massive multiplayer battles. People play together as units.” https://youtu.be/9GO53kYlsGE

My boys just checked out the informational video and say the game’s got good graphics and is historically accurate. The Union is called “The Northern Aggression” and the best fighters are Jackson’s regiment and the Louisiana Tigers. This, of course, delighted my rebel clan!

The problem isn’t the free market (which is what most people mean when they say capitalism), but rather crony capitalism, AKA fascism. Monopolies die without government protection.

      JS,
I still would want a market that didn’t allow just anything to be sold, even if there was a supply and a demand for said product. Pornography would be the perfect example, in that it shouldn’t be allowed simply because there’s money to made from it. That’s one of the problems with the free market and traditional capitalism, as I see it. It’s only an economic system. It works well, but only to a degree, because it is only a piece of the social puzzle. Like the Agrarians explained, customs, culture, and faith would “regulate” a Southern economy, and do so through social pressure and not a meddling government. This is why largely homogeneous, high-trust societies could only pull this off, and not a diversity-and-inclusion centralized state in which government and corporations (ie crony capitalists) pick winners and losers. Industrial capitalism and technocracy will always make more money than Agrarianism, but who wants to live in that dystopian hellscape? Sure, Yankees and “American Dream” immigrants do (even though it makes them miserable, too), but not me. 🙂

      1. Jake Starbuck

Such bans should be local or State rather than Federal. I agree that it’s only a piece of the puzzle. Shared culture, values, etc. are an absolute must. Federalism would solve a lot of problems if people (progressives) would respect it and its limits on power.

Great interview! The gentleman, much like our late friend Matthew, is doing God’s work in a medium that many enjoy, but few can create.
I was very pleased to have “Snowflake Buddies” mentioned. It hasn’t sold as it should have, but we’re (Shotwell Publishing) still hoping it will get its legs!
I immediately bought ED’s 3 Rebel Yell comics as soon as I finished listening to the podcast. Cant wait to get ‘em!

      My South Cackalacky brother,
I’m so happy you liked the interview, but I do apologize that I was remiss in linking to “Snowflake Buddies” in the show notes. I just remedied this accidental injustice. 🙂 Hopefully, my little plug will get at least a few more of that must-have coffee-table book sold. It’s a hoot!
I know you’ll like ED’s comics, and maybe y’all can collaborate on something in the future. I pray the rebel remnant will prevail!

Thanks for the kind words! Shotwell is awesome. Been meaning to pick up a few more titles from y’all (the Goldbug imprints).
